Diabetic retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is a disease of the retina which is caused by diabetes mellitus. This damages the small blood vessels in the retina and leads to vision loss in small sections of the retina. At an advanced stage, these small sections grow together to form large areas and diabetic retinopathy can therefore lead to complete blindness.
